RACIAL HARMONY 2012

People.Places.Memories

This is the theme for 2012 Racial Harmony Day
The   theme   seeks   to   bring   together the future aspirations of our nation and the recollections of past moments of joy that we share with our friends from all races.
These aspects reflect our shared history and common destiny upon which our sense of identity as Singaporeans is built.

People  :  Given   Singapore’s   rapid   rate   of   progress   and   the   increasing   spectrum   of   global   opportunities,   it is even more important for Singaporeans to believe in a joint vision of our destiny as a people. This vision of a common destiny will unite us against new fissures and pressure points, and allow us to reminisce with our friends, years from now.

Places  :  The spaces and places become repositories of shared memories that form a rich tapestry of our heritage.

Memories  :  The shared recollection of our multicultural heritage of different cultural landmarks, spaces and traditions forms the multiracial and multicultural fabric of our society.
These different facets of our multiracial history and multicultural heritage collectively govern the consciousness of the   ‘Singaporean   Identity’   and   entrench   our   sense   of   rootedness to this little island that we proudly call home.

    2. 1. How would you describe the relationship between the characters in the video? [Inferences]
Ans: They have a very close relationship with each other as they care for each other and treat each other like their own family.
      2. What draws the people you see in the video together? [Inferences & Evidence/Data/Information]
Ans: They care for one another and would always try to help out as much as possible when any one of them have any problems. For example when one of their friend's father is very ill and the others think of solutions to help their family.
3.What values and attitudes bind them together?
They show care and concern for one another, and also show encouragement.
      4. How did the characters show respect and empathy for others?
Ans: When one of them is in need of any help, they would do their best to help them out.
      (a) How do such values and attitudes enrich our life experiences? [Point of View]
Ans: So we can learn to respect others and also have others to respect us.
      (b) What is the importance of such values and attitudes to our society? [Point of View]
Ans: If people do not have such values and attitudes, they would lead very miserable lives as they do not respect/care for the other people so everyone would just ignore one another.
      5. What could you do to foster strong bonds between people of different backgrounds within your class / school? (Invite responses from students on how they bridge differences in the various class / school activities. i.e. service learning, CIP, CCA, interclass competition, etc)
Ans: Organise class outings so that they can understand more about one another.
      6. What small changes would you like to initiate in your neighbourhood to promote interaction and understanding between people, regardless of race, language or religion?
Ans: Get the neighbours to meet up some day or maybe hold a concert where people who have the same hobbies and meet each other and can understand about each other more as those who have the same hobbies can get along with each other better...

      ANSWERS:
      1) They are closely bonded together and they would help out each other when in need. They would want to think out of imaginative ways rather than to sacrifice themselves to accommodate other people's or their family member's needs.

      2) The everyday life bonds them together as one.

      3) Friendship and their kindness helped to bind them together.

      4) They shared their items with each other, and overcame their difficulties as one.
4a) These ensure that we can overcome every difficulty as one, with more ease.
4b) This helps the community to solve situations together and not to just leave the person with the problems alone, just to make that person suffer.

      5) We foster our relationships by just sharing the shings like what I did, to people around us.

      6) We will try to make them be more aware of one another and to help others to look out.
